Fun engagement session- Nicole & Sean!

Alexandria, VA is always a fun place to photograph couples. Our session with Nicole & Sean was no exception. Nicole told us that she is the outgoing one and Sean, not as much. Well, after spending over an hour with them, I've got to say to Sean is a really close second place to Nicole! They were both so much fun to be with and to photograph.

We did some photos near the water, then went down the street and found a really cool huge door on the side of a building. We roll with whatever is happening (runners, cars, bicycles going past as we are shooting)!

Then we headed for some other spots and, of course, the yellow wall that we love. Nicole & Sean were very animated here!

We ended the evening against the Potomac River again, followed by a little time at Starbucks! Our photos captured the love between Nicole and Sean, and the playfulness that they have with each other.

Your 15 minutes of fame will be on 4/15!

Valentine's Day contest!

Valentine's Day is just around the corner. And we want you to feel some love from I Do Photography! So here is our first Valentine's Day contest! The winner will receive a free photo session from I Do Photography and an album with at least ten images. Anyone can enter. The session will take place on location in Northern Virginia by April 30, 2011. Contest ends at 11:59pm on Sunday, Feb. 13.

To enter the contest:

Send a photo of you and your Valentine (human or dog) to image@idophoto.com.

Include your name, your Valentine's name, email, City, State and phone number.

Once we have received the photo, we will post it to I Do Photography's Facebook Contest Photo Album and email you confirmation.

When you receive confirmation, tag your photo with your name and all your friend's names. Invite them to Like your photo. They will need to "like" our Facebook page, too. The photo with the most Likes wins!

The photo you send in doesn't have to look fantastic, but the photos by Randy & Susan of I Do Photography will! Check out some samples.

We had an amazing time photographing eight standard poodles in Fredericksburg yesterday. As you can see, all of these dogs are exceptional and several of them are exceptionally colored! Kathy and Penny do the artwork. Some of the dogs have appeared on Nightline and TLC. We were privileged to work with Kathy and Penny and all the poodles. Here are a few samples!

So it's been a few weeks since July 4, but since these photos don't look much like fireworks, I think it's okay. Skip the tripod and realistic photos. I look at the black sky as my canvas, with free paint provided by the fireworks, then proceed from there. Hope you derive inspiration from these!

Centreville Presbyterian Church

We have done weddings that have 500 people in attendance and weddings with 6 in attendance. Each day is precious. Marci and Henry got married last Saturday with six other attendees - including us! I have to say it was a very moving ceremony - there were tears in this photographer's eyes. Marci and Henry's love for each other and for God was so evident in everything. I volunteered to photograph the annual "Bark Ball" of the Washington Humane Society at the Washington Hilton on Saturday. There were lots of dogs and their people, many dressed to the nines. We had a fun time with Anastasia & Jason and their three dogs! Two of Anastasia's bridesmaids came along and took the dogs when we were done with that part of the session. Thanks! Then we were able to spend some more quality time with just the two of them. They don't root for the same team, as you can see, but Anastasia & Jason make a great team, anyway! We look forward to their wedding in August.

Coach collar awarded to Beamer

The happy dog parents of Beamer (we will stop calling him "Beamer1" now!) came by I Do Photography on Wednesday to see all of the photos of Beamer and to pick up the Coach dog collar. Here is Beamer modeling the new collar, and predictably paying more attention to food than the camera in the group photo!

We are still taking orders for prints and products from these 10 dog portraits. When we are done with that, we will be presenting a check to A Forever Home Rescue Foundation in Chantilly, VA.

The Stylish Dog Contest is over, and the winner is the dog that will forever be known as "Beamer-1". Congratulations to Beamer's owner, Becca Trainor of Gainesville, VA, for her efforts in getting out the vote! Our thanks to all of our dog owners who participated and to all of you who voted. We are PSYCHED! Our Stylish Dog Contest participants are scheduled for their portraits this week, so it won't be long until we will post all their portraits on this blog. We will post them all at one time so there is no unfair advantage! For details on the contest, go down a few blog posts. In the meantime, here are some photos of our Italian Greyhound Sophie, who is not participating in the contest (you know, the fine print-- no employees, family or pets of I Do Photography Inc.). We went. We're back!

Blogging on the road just didn't happen for me, sadly. In fact, I didn't post anything while we were getting ready to go to Las Vegas for the WPPI (Wedding and Portrait Photographers International) convention. Then I didn't post anything from there last week. Here is what we did (very briefly). We flew to Vegas on Saturday. Stayed downtown at the Golden Nugget. We love downtown! We moved up to the MGM Grand on Sunday for WPPI. Sunday through Wednesday, we attended seminars, the largest photo trade show in North America, more seminars, evening events including a mock wedding shot by several world famous photographers, dinners, parties, a concert by Blues Traveler sponsored by Nikon, and even more seminars. Met lots of great people. Learned a lot. Didn't have time for goofing off until after the convention was over. Then we walked for miles along the Strip, had a fabulous dinner at Seablue in the MGM, and saw KA by Cirque du Soleil. Wow! Here's a photo of Susan and Randy with $1 million. They wouldn't let us bring it home. What happens in Vegas STAYS in Vegas. . . darn!

Susan's birthday, which hasn't actually happened yet, was a good excuse for a fun night of show tunes performed by many people from the Creative Arts Ministry at our church, McLean Bible Church Everyone had fun and everyone brought ice cream, even though the temperature outdoors was 11 degrees that night!

Sara & Nelson's wedding

Sara & Nelson were married on December 13 in Warrenton, VA at St. James Episcopal Church. The reception was at Fauquier Springs Country Club. Susan and I had a GREAT time photographing their day. It was a little cold (hey, it was December!) but everyone toughed it out for some outdoor photos.

The Longest Day- Parts 2 and 3

Hey, I wanted to get these two episodes up so that anyone watching will be up to speed. We are awaiting the fourth episode shortly. These two teams of photographers have some issues (what's new, it's reality TV!), but hopefully they will get their act together and produce 2 videos each. The Longest Day- 24 crazy photographers!

Here's something for all you reality TV watchers. This is an online only show in (I think) 10 episodes about 24 wedding photographers who find out what their task is going to be for the next 24 hours. I'm assuming that no one will be sleeping! Each team is working for a different charity, so the end result will be good! Check it out. We will post further episodes as they become available. Actually, the second and third episodes are out now. We're playing catchup and we will catch you up soon!

These shows will be released throughout January and early February, leading up to the Wedding and Portrait Photographers International (WPPI) convention. As some of you know, putting up a blog on a consistent basis isn't as easy as it looks! But I'm willing to try again!
